- [S32] Edna Stem Bonkes, Sep 2007.
His name before coming to England was Berel Bloch and he Anglicized it to Barnett Block.
Barnett was a traveller in fur. When his sons were older he opened a factory in London England making fur coats under the name of "Barnett and Block ".
Most of his sons worked with him, I believe it was a success as he exported some of his coats to the usa.
Now the story goes he did have family in Chicago, but for some reason it was kept a secret. His sibling must have known. The reason could be that as kids we never thought about genealogy.

According to Barnett's burial certificate he died on the 21, my cousin said the 20, but I shall stick to the 21 March 1920.
Another date that is hard to figure out is this.
1.On the 1891 British census it gives his age as being 45.
2.On the united synagogue burial certificate it states. He died on 21 March 1920 age 57. Was in England for 40 years.
My Cousin in Baltimore said her mother (Annie) told her that Barnett had lived in Chicago before going to England. So maybe the census date is
correct. I think he died older than 57. I don't know for sure though!
